San Diegans Will Walk to Highlight the Global Water Crisis and its Impact on Women & Girls

Published 04/17/2019 by globalcommunities

SAN DIEGO – On Sunday, April 28, more than 500 San Diegans will join Project Concern International’s (PCI) 11th annual Walk for Water in solidarity with girls and women around the world by carrying buckets of water along a 5k route to bring awareness to the global water crisis.

Globally, 1 in 10 people lacks access to clean water at home and walks up to six hours a day in search of this critical resource. Most often it is women and girls who bear the brunt of this task, walking an average of four miles to get water, all while missing school or work and putting their lives at risk.

San Diego residents across the county have RSVP’d for the event and will walk in support of the right for everyone to have access to clean water, and in solidarity with women and girls.

The event will demonstrate the work being done locally and globally by PCI to end poverty and to advance women and girls by empowering them to have a brighter, healthier future.

Members of the media are invited to attend the Walk for Water for interviews and photo opportunities.
